As part of a new partnership between CoLab, AUT and DOC Lab/Documentary Edge Forum, a new DOC Lab to introduce new media techniques and methods to documentary will be taking place at AUT on the 27 & 28 February 2010. In the 21st century as the borders between various media blur and break down, documentary content creators now need to embrace cross-media and 360 degree platforms. The DOC Lab 2010 will act as an incubator, allowing attendees the opportunity to develop their projects by sharing ideas as well as through mentorship, feedback and interactive participation. The DOC Lab is a must for those in drama or documentary, wishing to develop digital media ideas across multiple platforms. DOC Lab will be facilitated by Wendy Levy of the Producer’s Institute, USA, and will feature mentors Marc Boothe (B3 Media, UK), James Franklin (Pixeco, UK), Peter Worrall (3D Ltd, NZ), and CoLab’s Laurent Antonczak (MOTEC, ATZ 119, NZ). Colab would like to congratulate the Documenatry Edge Forum on the highly successful DOC Lab of 27 & 28th February, the very first to take place as part of a new partnership between Colab, AUT and the Documentary Edge Forum. DOC Lab 2010 was initiated to act as an incubator for new documentary proposals, allowing attendees the opportunity to develop their projects by sharing ideas as well as through mentorship, feedback and interactive participation. Congratulations also to the winning documentary project, People's Media, Venezuela/Aotearoa!, a project built around a traditional documentary about community media practices in Venezuela, extending into a website hosting this and other mini-documentaries, photo essays and educational resources and developing eventually into an interactive knowledge and resource sharing medium for indigenous and grass-roots community groups in Venezuela and New Zealand. The project is produced by a collective headed by Dr Katherine Lehman and Dr Geraldine Peters and was selected as the winner by the facilitators and mentors of the DOC Lab, Wendy Levy of the Producer’s Institute, USA, Marc Boothe (B3 Media, UK), James Franklin (Pixeco, UK), Peter Worrall (3D Ltd, NZ), and CoLab’s Laurent Antonczak (MOTEC, ATZ 119, NZ). Dr Geraldine Peters of the winning collective is also coordinator of Colab interest group Community Media Practices along with Colab manager Dawn Hutchesson. Congratulations Geraldine.
