Arduino Users Group
Hello all, Tim from MindKits here
We had a great turn out last month (October 09) and this month's Arduino Users Group is looking pretty damn exciting if we do say so ourselves. Vik Olliver will be coming along to show us a demo of the 3D printer project named 'RepRap'.
From the RepRap.org site: "RepRap is short for Replicating Rapid-prototyper. It is the practical self-copying 3D printer introduced in the video on the right - a
self-replicating machine. This 3D printer builds the parts up in layers of plastic. This technology already exists, but the cheapest commercial machine would cost you about €30,000. And it isn't even designed so that it can make itself. So what the RepRap team are doing is to develop and to give away the designs for a much cheaper machine with the novel capability of being able to self-copy (material costs
are about €500). That way it's accessible to small communities in the developing world as well as individuals in the developed world. Following the principles of the Free Software Movement we are distributing the RepRap machine at no cost to everyone under the GNU General Public Licence. So, if you have a RepRap machine, you can use it to make another and give that one to a friend... "
We have a TV crew who will be buzzing around taking a look at the kiwi
hobby tech culture too so it would be great to have a big turnout so
we can show them how alive geek culture is in NZ. They have also
wanted to make it clear that they have no intention of filming anyone
who doesn't want to be and by no means do you have to be in front of a
camera. So, no need to be shy.
We'll also have Sebastian Hamilton along again to do a more in depth
look at his sensory belt powered by Arduinos and IR sensors. You can
check out a video of it in action here.

So, it's looking like a pretty epic meet up this month and we'd love
to have you there to chat about all things Arduino, robotics and to
have a few beers too.

Bring anything you'd like to swap with others, things you'd like to
chat about, questions to ask, or, just yourself if that's what you'd
like.
